evermore

2020 - 2021

Taylor Swift's 'evermore' era, marked by the release of the album of the same name on 11 December 2020, is often seen as a continuation of her previous album, 'Folklore', in terms of sound and style. Both works represent a new phase in Taylor's career, where she moves away from mainstream pop and explores a more folk and indie approach.

Musically, 'evermore' is characterised by a folk sound, with elements of alternative rock and country, and a subtle, rich production. The album was once again produced in collaboration with Aaron Dessner from The National and Jack Antonoff. The songs feature acoustic instrumentation, beautiful harmonies and a compelling lyrical narrative.

The themes of 'evermore' include nostalgia, love, loss, the ups and downs of relationships and the complexities of the human experience. While 'folklore' often focuses on fictional stories and characters, 'Evermore' delves deeper into Swift's personal experiences and her reflections on love and longing. Tracks like 'willow', 'champagne problems' and 'gold rush' exemplify this emotional connection and Taylor's storytelling ability.

'evermore' was very well received by critics, being praised for its cohesion and the depth of the lyrics. 'willow', the lead single, is a song about the persistence of love and the desire to move on, reflecting the album's central theme. Another highlight is 'champagne problems', which deals with the pain of an unrequited marriage proposal, showing Taylor's ability to capture complex emotions in a poetic way.

The visual aesthetic of 'evermore' continues along the lines of 'folklore', with an earthy colour palette and a rustic, natural feel. The album artwork and music videos generally feature outdoor settings, elements of nature and a more simplistic and intimate presentation, reflecting the introspective spirit of the album.

The 'evermore' era is marked by Taylor Swift's artistic maturity, a deeper exploration of emotional themes and exceptional storytelling ability. It's an album that invites listeners to reflect on their own experiences, while revealing a more vulnerable and introspective side of the artist. Through 'evermore', Taylor continues to evolve and innovate, reaffirming her position as one of the most respected songwriters of her generation.

Tour

Like the previous albuns, "evermore" also had no promotional tour. Instead (like folklore and Lover), it got a performance on The Eras Tour. On the first leg of The Eras Tour, 5 songs from evermore were performed:

First leg setlist:

- 'tis the damn season

- willow

- marjorie

- champagne problems

- tolerate it

For the European leg, Taylor added the album "The Tortured Poets Department" to the setlist, thus making some changes to some of the acts, particularly with "evermore".

Taylor excluded the evermore act and combined it with it's "sister album" folklore, thus forming the "folkmore" act that combines songs from folklore and evermore.

Setlist:

- cardigan

- betty

- champagne problems

- august

- illicit affairs

- my tears ricochet

- marjorie

- willow
